Literacy & Dyslexia Specialist

Meet Michelle: Your Reading Specialist & Parent Coach.

Aloha! I'm  Michelle, and I believe all kids can learn to read with the right support and instruction. My mission is to help parents advocate for their children and give kids the confidence they need to succeed in reading through evidence-based methods founded in the science of reading.

As a literacy and dyslexia specialist I am passionate about ensuring that all kids are afforded the opportunity to learn how to read. As the parent of a dyslexic learner, I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to watch your child face challenges with reading. That’s why I’m here—to support families every step of the way and provide the tools and strategies needed to help your child thrive. Together, we can ensure your child finds success on their reading journey.

Got Questions? Let Me Help.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes, I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation to discuss your child’s literacy needs and how I can help support their progress.

What geographic areas do you service?

I provide virtual services to parents and students nationwide, accessible from anywhere with the internet. I provide in-person services to families local to Oahu.

Is parent coaching the same as tutoring?

While tutoring focuses on delivering personalized reading and spelling instruction, parent coaching helps parents advocate for their child’s literacy needs at school. I guide parents through understanding their rights, communicating with the school, and ensuring their child receives appropriate support, which may include an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.

What is your background & Training in the field of education & literacy?

With over 25 years of experience in early education, I hold a graduate degree in Reading Science and a Dyslexia Certificate from Mount St. Joseph University. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and certified as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist by CERI. Additionally, I serve as an active board member of the International Dyslexia Association, Hawaii Branch.

How do I get my child started with private tutoring?

The first step is a foundational reading assessment to identify your child’s specific needs. This includes two sessions with your child, followed by data analysis and a detailed report to ensure that lessons are customized to meet your child's unique needs.

My child’s teacher says she’s doing fine but I am concerned. What should I do?

If you notice reading difficulties at home but the teacher reports no concerns, don’t wait—early intervention is crucial. Request a meeting with your child’s teacher to discuss your concerns. My free parent-teacher guide can help you navigate this conversation.
